STREET SAFE PROJECT
Street Safe is a brand new homelessness prevention project from September 2016
While DHYP successfully delivers services that tackle homelessness we also feel that a significant amount of homelessness could be prevented. Therefore this exciting new project's aim is to prevent youth homelessness.
DHYP recognises that, providing it is safe for them to do so, the family home is the most appropriate place for a young person to live.
This project will work with schools, Youth Centres, Children's Centres and other organisations across Doncaster to raise awareness of homelessness, break down the stigma relating to homelessness and to identify issues in their early stages that could lead to homelessness.
This project aims to work with young people and their families to act in a mediation role to try to overcome issues with the aim of the family being able to function fully as a whole again.
Street Safe will also educate young people on issues around homelessness such as: realistic housing options; sources of income and limitations; managing on a budget; life skills; emotional stress and vulnerability.
